The 78th Panola County Livestock & Ag Mechanics Show is HERE! Gary FFA & 4-H would like to invite you to come out and support the 104 projects being exhibited by our members! This is a record year for participation and we have students in every category of the show! Gary has a long time tradition of success and we know our students are ready to compete at the highest level! There are several ways to support our students at the show- from coming out and cheering them on, to sharing their posts on Facebook, bidding on them to be the highest bidder for a tax-deductible donation or “adding on” to their projects in any amount for another opportunity for a tax-deductible donation! Our students work with some of these projects for up to two years and the amount of learning that happens through agriculture is priceless! Attached is the county show schedule! We hope to see you at the Panola County Expo Hall next week! For more information you can visit PCJLS.net, reach out to a Gary FFA Advisor (Paul Harvey & Jessica Shadix) or a Gary 4-H Leader (Jennifer Whitby & Michelle Stutes). GO BOBCATS!

As we gear up for the 78th annual Panola County Junior Livestock & Ag Mechanics Show, the “week” begins with our “Pen of Heifer” exhibitors taking an exam over beef cattle production, participating in interviews with industry professionals, and submitting their record books. Seven Gary FFA & 4-H students prepared for this process while raising a “pen” of 3-5 commercial heifers over the last year. Next Tuesday 2/27, these students will present their 3 heifers to judges where they will be accessed on their uniformity, growth and their ability to fit into the production herd for potential buyers. If you are interested in a set of 3 replacement heifers for your herd, you are welcome to attend the presentation of awards to these students at 6pm at the Carthage Expo followed by the sale of these heifers at 6:30pm. Come grab a bidder number and come take a set home! Good luck to these Gary students!! This week is National FFA Week across the country! Our Gary FFA Officers; Della Kiper, Braley Weems, Emorie Comer, McKenzie Coleman, Kinsley Myron and Bradley Cope visited the Elementary this morning to welcome students to school and share a smile! FFA members embrace concepts taught in agricultural science classrooms nationwide, build valuable skills through hands-on experiential learning and each year demonstrate their proficiency in competitions based on real-world agricultural skills. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. National FFA membership today consists of 850,823 student members in grades 5-12 who belong to one of 8,995 local FFA chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. FFA operates on local, state and national levels. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school level. Agriculture educators serve as chapter advisors. Chapters are organized under state associations headed by an advisor and executive secretary, often employees of the state department of education. States conduct programs and host annual conventions. FFA classroom activities include math and science as well as hands-on work experience and the development of life skills, helping members discover their career path and realize success. Collectively, FFA members earn more than $4 billion annually through their hands-on work experience. Members participate and learn advanced career skills in 47 national proficiency areas based on their hands-on work experiences ranging from agricultural communications and food science and technology to turf grass management and wildlife production and management. According to a student magazine readership study, 87 percent of our members are interested in learning about career exploration, 81 percent about college preparation and 81 percent about technology. Through 24 national career development events and one activity, FFA members are challenged to real-life, hands-on tests of skills used to prepare them for 235 unique careers in agriculture.

Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. CDEs answer the question, "When will I use this knowledge in the real world?" Students will compete in several “invitational” contest prior to their Area Contes in April, which will be host to over 100 teams! This year Gary FFA has a record number of students competing in contests for the first time EVER! Please help us congratulate these teams on their first contest of the year and wish them luck as they grow and learn through FFA! Farm Business Management: 3rd Place Hudson Ogg, Jake VonEiff and William Dickson Forages: Caden Young and Bradley Cope Floriculture: Makynze Adams, Katelyn Chambers, McKenzie Coleman, and Emma Holland Nursery Landscape: Hannah Yarborough, Brannan Stevens, Kinsley Myron, and Brodey Seals
