This year we have had “many firsts” for Gary FFA, including the largest number of students participating in events. With that has come great success and a huge increase in the variety of events students have shown interest in! Our Forages Career Development Event team ADVANCED TO THE STATE CONTEST and traveled to Sam Houston State University on Friday, April 26th to compete. What is Forages? Students apply their knowledge of various forage species to evaluate hay based on physical properties, identify species common to pastures and complete quiz that tests team members’ knowledge of different aspects of forages. Teams consist of 3 or 4 members. Gary FFA ranked 58th out of 84 teams! We are proud of these students for learning something new and working so hard! It's GHS Varsity Baseball playoff time! Game 1 against the West Sabine Tigers will be at Gary on Friday at 6PM! Game 2 will be at West Sabine in Pineland, TX on Saturday at 1PM! Come cheer our boys on!

These girls represented our school well at the Regional Academic UIL Meet yesterday! Poetry: Kobi Roehl placed 2nd in her prelim round and advanced to finals. In finals she received 2nd place, earning a bid to STATE! Prose: Dakota Martin placed 3rd in her prelim room, but did not advance to finals. Congratulations to both girls for their hard work and effort with their amazing performances!

Elementary students are getting ready for their Art class Glow Party with glow art!

While participating in events as members of Gary FFA, students are able to learn many valuable life skills through their experiences. It isn’t “just” about animals and trees! Students get to travel the state, create bonds and relationships which turn into connections they have their entire lives, and get to experience many different areas of agriculture while doing the variety of contests. This letter was sent to our Horse Judging team, inviting them to pursue a collegiate career judging horses at Texas A&M Commerce University. This offer was based on their performance and scores at the Area Horse Judging Contest! WHAT AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT! Gary FFA wrapped up their Forestry Career Development Event competitions yesterday at the State Woodland Clinic held at the SFA Experimental Forest in Nacogdoches. 69 teams and 249 individuals from East Texas competed and results are as follows: 💙FFA- 18th Place Della Kiper, 21st Individual Caitlynn Ayers Emma Holland Nicole Castillo Emma Newman Braley Weems Abbie Cummings Emorie Comer 💚4-H- 6th Place Jackson Whitby, 16th individual Kalen McBride Hannah Yarborough Jaycee Whitby Case Rabon Bradley Cope Brodey Seals Brannan Stevens Caden Young Bella Chapman Jake Stephenson Ellie Young HUGE shoutout to Senior, Della Kiper! She was only THREE POINTS from being TOP TEN out of the 249 individuals at the contest!! Her drive and passion for everything she does is amazing and something to look up to!! Mr. Harvey and Ms. Shadix are proud of all of these students and their hard work this year!

Gary FFA has had a busy Spring Break! First, our Nursery Landscape and Floriculture teams traveled to the Area 6 FFA Competition on Tuesday, 4/16 where over 65 schools competed for a spot to advance to the respective state competitions. These teams are trained by Jessica Shadix Placings: 🪴Nursery Landscape- 14th place team Hannah Yarborough Kinsley Myron Brodey Seals Brannan Stevens 🌷Floriculture- 24th place team Katelyn Chambers Makynze Adams McKenzie Coleman Emma Holland While these placings might not seem exciting to some, THEY ARE! The two teams are made up of all freshmen except 1 and these contests are brand new to Gary FFA and it takes a year or two to establish a strong foundation at the state qualifying level. IT WILL HAPPEN!! Congrats to these teams! In celebration, ice cream before lunch was a must!

Congratulations to Kaydence Hammers, recipient of a $1,500 Presidential Scholarship from the East Texas Professional Credit Union! Kaydence was one of fifteen students in the East Texas area presented with her scholarship at the Credit Union banquet held in Longview on Wednesday, April 10th. Along with being presented with her scholarship, Kaydence was asked to read the essay that she wrote about her most influential teacher, Ag Teacher Jessica Shadix at the banquet and Kaydence presented Ms. Shadix with a token of her appreciation for her influence.
