Our Gary FFA Officers have been busy this summer planning for the upcoming school year.
District Leadership Camp is held each year for the 23 schools in our Longview FFA District. FFA Districts and Areas are based on location and not the size of the school. For example, Gary FFA had 60 FFA Members this past year and Longview FFA (the 6th largest program in the State of Texas), had 694 FFA Members and in all competitions at the district level the two compete against each other.
This camp was a day of learning, building leadership skills, and personal growth for our officers. They attended sessions led by other students, participated in a community service project and had “contests” against the other 23 schools in our district. They WON two of the 6 contests of the day!!
Our officers are ready to lead and serve our chapter for the upcoming year!

McKenzie Coleman was Reserve Champion Junior Prepared Speaker at the Longview FFA District Contest on May 7th out of the 23 schools in our district. That morning at 5:45am she set out for the Area Competition in Pittsburg comprised of OVER 100 schools!
FFA Contests are not “broken down” by the size of districts, but location of the school. So HUGE schools compete against small ones. In our FFA Area there are schools with over 800 FFA Members, Gary has 68. 😲
McKenzie was FOURTH in Junior Prepared Speaking this morning!! Only the top two advance to the state contest, but we couldn’t be more PROUD of her accomplishment! TOP FOUR IN AREA IS AMAZING!
On the way home from the contest she asked Ms. Shadix, “do you think we can make it to the playoff baseball game in Nacogdoches to cheer them on?” And OF COURSE that is what they did!!
From FFA competitions to cheering on the Bobcats, this girl puts in 100% effort at all times!!
Congrats McKenzie!

Secondary students; if you haven't completed your checklist and turned in your Chromebook, then please come tomorrow to complete it. We have several students that have not completed their end of the year checklist!

Our seniors may think they are full grown, but they are still our students for one more day! Come celebrate with us as these students walk the stage and graduate tonight at 7PM in the High School gym!
